Acorn Cottage is a beautifully furnished and well equipped cottage of considerable charm. With a little help from Laura Ashley, the owners have created a real 'home from home', a very comfortable and cosy retreat and the perfect property for a couple or small family. Set in the peaceful village of Mylor Bridge, over-looking the playing fields and creek, the cottage is an ideal base from which to explore the areas many attractions.
Mylor Bridge is surrounded by trees at the head of Mylor Creek, one of the many arms of the Carrick Roads, the deep water anchorage around Falmouth. Needless to say, Mylor has excellent facilities for yachtsmen with Mylor Yacht Harbour at nearby Mylor Churchtown, located in an easterly direction at the head of Mylor Creek. The yacht harbour offers many facilities to include pontoon berths and swinging moorings with immediate access to the Carrick Roads.
Mylor Bridge village has many local amenities catering for day to day shopping needs, including a Post Office, stores with delicatessen and off-license, newsagents, hairdressers, butchers and a playing field (directly opposite Acorn Cottage) which includes a park area with swings.
The delightful waterside public house and restaurant, the Pandora Inn (a medieval thatched pub in a lovely location next to Restronguet Creek which serves a good range of imaginative food from sandwiches up with fish a speciality) and the more local Lemon Arms are 15 and 5 minutes walk, respectively. Just over a mile away is Tregew Farm with the superb Long Close Farm Shop (see links for more details). Approximately 15 minutes' walk along narrow country lanes will take you to Weir Point where there is a peaceful, safe and secluded shingle beach. The lovely, sandy beaches of Falmouth are a 10 minute drive away.
Mylor Yacht Harbour also offers sailing schools, boat hire, two excellent restaurants, a café and chandlery. Mylor parish church of St Melanus was founded in 1130 and contains the graves of many of the skippers of the packet boats that sailed the world delivering mail to the colonies.
The area offers many great rural or waterside walks and the towns of Penryn (about 2 miles) and Falmouth (about 3½ miles) provide a wide variety of eating establishments and a good selection of shops. Cornwall's capital, the cathedral city of Truro (about 8½ miles) provides a more comprehensive range of facilities including a cinema and theatre.
PLEASE NOTE: Acorn Cottage has undergone complete refurbishment by the new owners. The kitchen, flooring and all furniture throughout the property are NEW for the 2008 season.
